The long and chequered history of Yemeni coffee in the West could, and does fill many a book. Given that the last time we typed this description the Mac faeries decided they didn't like well researched in depth socio-political coffee chat, we will keep it brief.
We ONLY source coffee where we can guarantee that farmers are being both paid fairly and supported by whatever means available to our importing partners that is appropriate to the region. In this case our friends Mohammed & Hussein from Mocha Hunters are working with smallholders in Haraaz to produce this lot for the specialty market. With agronomical support this coffee has been naturally processed with skill and precision which follows through in the clarity of the cup.
The prohibitive pricing of Yemeni coffee must take into account the difficulties that producers and exporters experience after harvest. We truly hope that working in a more collaborative way with importers like Mo & Hussein will allow specialty grade Yemeni arabica to be economically viable and available for a wider market in the future.
Until then, we got you ;)
